SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Obuntu Tailoring and Skills Intervention Initiative

In rural Uganda, many young people leave school not because they lack ambition, but because poverty leaves them no choice. Without practical skills or opportunities, they become vulnerable to unemployment, early marriage, and a lifetime of struggle.

The Obuntu Tailoring and Skills Intervention Initiative was created to break this cycle. We provide out-of-school youth—especially girls and young mothers—with hands-on training in tailoring, entrepreneurship, and essential life skills. Each participant receives mentorship, a supportive environment, and guidance to build confidence and independence.

But we do not stop at training.

To ensure our graduates can immediately begin earning an income, we provide start-up capital and basic equipment, enabling them to launch small tailoring businesses, take on orders, or join local cooperatives. This practical support ensures they do not leave training only to return home with no tools, no opportunities, and no way forward.

Rooted in the principles of Obuntu—shared humanity, compassion, and collective uplift—this initiative empowers young people to reclaim their futures while strengthening families and building resilient, economically vibrant communities.
